Inventive cook Dylan has been a maintenance technician with Standard Heating & Air Conditioning for three years. Dylan brings craft, care, and creativity to everything he does—whether he’s servicing HVAC systems or experimenting in the kitchen.
That same passion connects perfectly to the restaurants Standard Heating proudly supports during Mpls.St.Paul Magazine’s Restaurant Weeks. When he’s not working in the field, you’ll find Dylan exploring the Twin Cities food scene or putting his own twist on comfort-food classics—like his crowd-pleasing Cheeseburger Egg Rolls.
Dylan’s Cheeseburger Egg Rolls
Cook time: 50 minutes
Makes: 24 egg rolls
Ingredients
-
24 egg roll wrappers
-
¼ lb. bacon, diced
-
½ medium white onion, diced
-
1 lb. ground beef
-
½ tsp. salt
-
½ tsp. pepper
-
¼ tsp. dry ground mustard
-
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
-
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
-
¼ cup diced pickles or relish
-
Vegetable oil, for frying
Directions
-
Separate the egg roll wrappers and lay them out on parchment paper. Set aside.
-
In a frying pan over medium heat, cook the diced bacon for 15–20 minutes until cooked through and slightly crunchy. Remove bacon from the pan and set aside.
-
In the same pan, add the diced onion and cook until translucent (about 4 minutes). Add garlic and stir until fragrant, about 45 seconds.
-
Add ground beef, salt, pepper, and ground mustard. Cook until no longer pink, breaking up the meat as it cooks (about 10 minutes). Drain excess liquid.
-
Stir in the cooked bacon, shredded cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and pickles or relish. Cook for 3–5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and fully incorporated.
-
Spoon the meat mixture evenly onto the egg roll wrappers and wrap tightly to seal.
-
Heat vegetable oil to 350°. Fry the egg rolls for 1–2 minutes per side, turning with tongs, until golden brown.
-
Remove from oil and place on paper towels or a drying rack to cool slightly.
-
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
